Share Christy’s Story: Her Whole Story

Hello, Christy Sims supporters! This is Laci, Christy’s friend and the Social Media Director for the Christy Sims Foundation. Usually, Christy writes these blog posts herself but I’m filling in today because this week, I have a question for all of you. Before I ask it, though, let’s back up a little.

Share Christy’s Story: Getting Social

Welcome back to the blog and thank you for sharing my story last week! A quick tally shows that you all shared it from Facebook alone 663 times – Incredible. Thank you for doing that and putting this smile on my face…

Christy9-8

I’m asking you to please continue sharing my story this week, online and in-person with your friends, family, and co-workers. I’m also asking everyone to please give just $10.00. It may not seem like very much but imagine if each of those 663 people who shared had given $10.00… The Total Contact Face Mask I mentioned in my first post would be ordered and the dent I’m trying to make in my medical expenses would be that much bigger.

I (still) hate having to ask for your help and am only comforted by the fact that I think know you understand. You may not be able to relate to being attacked by someone with sulfuric acid – and Lord knows I hope you never are – but I know you can understand where I’m coming from as a survivor. If you’re reading this, you’re old enough to have been through something, faced a challenge that you did not know how you’d make it through, and survived it thanks in large part to the compassion of other people. So, again, I swallow my pride and I ask you to continue to share my story, to give $10.00, and to encourage others to do the same. Thank you.

If you’re on any of these platforms, I hope you’ll connect with us and continue to help me to share my story with your online community. Share my last video with them… Share this blog post with them. Just please share. And give.
Now, let’s get social.

We’ll be sharing some social media pointers over the next week with you but for now, just remember to always include the hash tag #sharechristysstory! (This helps us to gain online traction and be seen by more people.) Also, please feel free to leave comments on any of these platforms- I see every single one of them and I LOVE reading through them.

Have a wonderful week, everyone, and thank you again for all of your support and love.

Share Christy’s Story: A Beautiful Expression of Giving

Thank you for visiting my blog and thank you for your continued support – It means the world to me and my family.

Today, the Christy Sims Foundation is kicking off “Share Christy’s Story: A Beautiful Expression of Giving“. This is a nine-week campaign to bring my story to more people in order to teach more about the different aspects of domestic violence. I also hope to raise funds to help cover the cost of my medical needs, specifically a Total Contact face mask which will help my skin to heal as I go through more surgeries.

I’ll admit it is much easier for me to ask you to share my story in order to help others. Right now, as I type this, there are people out there about to enter a relationship with a violent person. There’s someone living their own horror story right now who thinks things might get better if they just “try harder”. And, there are plenty of  people out there who may not be on the verge of an unhealthy relationship but they’re on the track to one. Please share my story. You just might reach one of these people before it’s too late.

As I said in my video, I am not used to asking for help. I am a counselor and I’m much more comfortable giving support than receiving it. The fact of the matter is, though, I need it and, most importantly to me, my children need it. They need a mom who can be there, be truly present for them, rather than consumed by worry.

I realize so many of you have given and I can never, ever properly articulate how much it has meant to me. I understand, though, that as giving and supportive as you are, you can’t always donate more to help me out. I get it. I really, really do.That is why I am asking you to please share my story with everyone you know and ask them to give. Ask them to make a difference. I can assure you, every little bit helps and I am thankful for every penny.

Over the next few months, I’ve got a lot planned including my thirteenth surgery, speaking engagements, and even a few fun online projects for this campaign that I hope you’ll join me in. And, because I will never be able to say it enough, thank you.
